One of the main things told to anybody who underwent a Brazilian buttock augmentation is to follow instructions and avoid sitting for about two weeks. Two weeks appears to be a long time, but there is a scientific reason behind this. For the first two weeks when the fat is transferred to the buttocks, this is the time where the body is actually going to either reabsorb the fat or allow the fat to be nourished with new blood supply. When the buttock augmentation is performed, in the first two weeks the fat transfer behaves as a graft. The graft is any tissue that does not have its own blood supply and relies initially for survival on the surrounding soft tissue to ultimately survive. During a buttock augmentation, a significant amount of fat is injected in the buttocks for projection. We are talking about 700 cc to a 1000 cc on average for projection. When we inject that amount of fat, any stress to the buttocks can negatively impact your results. One of the main things is pressure and because the fat is liquid when it is injected. There are two risks that occur if you do not take care of yourself this first two weeks. The first one is fat migration. Fat can actually migrate, mainly locally around the buttock area within the first two weeks after surgery. Because the fat is liquidy, whenever you apply pressure to it, it can essentially transfer in any direction compromising the roundness of your buttocks that was achieved during your surgery. The other important aspect is pressure can cause the fat to die. When you apply pressure to the buttocks, there is a significant increase in intragluteal pressure which results in the fat dying. In other words, high pressure will cause a significant decrease in the perfusion of the fat. Because the fat does not have its own blood supply, it essentially will die from lack of nutrients that are necessary in the first two weeks for a successful surgery. Think about having an elephant step on your toes. I am sure you are not going to like that. When it comes to buttock augmentation, following the instruction with a no sitting protocol for two weeks to relieve the pressure on the buttocks and provide a good round behind is essential for the procedure. Understanding this process is essential for you to have a good outcome.
