The recovery period after buttock augmentation with silicone implants is no longer than two weeks. After this time, the patient can get back to work with the recommendation to keep wearing the compression garments and avoid intense physical exercise.
The buttock augmentation recovery timeline is divided into several stages, namely:
1. Days after the procedure
During this time, the patient will experience a certain level of pain and discomfort that could be more or less intense depending on the surgical plan that was followed and the patient’s tolerance for pain. The plastic surgeon will prescribe medication that will alleviate the pain. The recommendation is to take the medication before the pain gets too intense.
The operated area will be swollen and bruised, and the patient is advised not to sit on the buttocks or lie on the back during this time as the incisions might rupture.
The recommendation for the first days is to get enough rest and get off the bed every couple of hours for short walks to avoid the formation of blood clots that could trigger significant complications.
During these days, it is a good idea to have a friend or someone from the family helping you with chores around the house and also to monitor your condition.
2. First week after the procedure
Towards the end of the first week, the patient will notice that the pain and discomfort have subsided considerably. Moreover, the patient can now start resuming daily activities that don’t require a great deal of physical effort. The recommendation is not to force the incisions by sitting on the buttocks or walking for long periods of time. The implants are inserted inside or under the muscles of the buttocks, and these muscles are involved in all the movements of the lower part of the body. Make sure to get enough rest during this time, even if you feel better and up to resume your normal tasks.
3. First two weeks after the procedure
The swelling and bruising will start to fade away by this time. Also, the pain and discomfort should be barely noticeable, if they don’t subside completely. The patient is able to resume most daily activities around the house and even outside the home. If the responsibilities at work don’t involve intense physical activities, work can be resumed.
4. First month after the procedure
The results of the procedure are starting to take shape as the inflammation subsides even more or completely. The patient can go to work and function normally; it is only intense physical exercises that should be avoided for at least another month. The compression garments are still mandatory to be worn.
5. First three months after the procedure
During this time all side effects from the surgery will disappear, and the final results are pretty much visible. The scars are still not completely healed and matured as this can take up to one year. The patient can resume exercising and the compression garments are no longer necessary to be worn.
