The butt lift is one of the most popular and commonly performed plastic surgery procedures in the United States. The operation effectively treats buttocks that have become loose and saggy.
Many factors can cause the buttocks to become saggy. As you age, your body experiences hormonal changes and the estrogen level in your body decreases. It affects the contours of your butt, making them saggy and loose. Also, pregnancy tends to make the buttocks saggy. Weight fluctuation is yet another dominant factor that causes the butt to become saggy.
When the butt becomes saggy, it means the skin has become weaker and the elastin has been damaged. This phenomenon makes the buttocks severely saggy. Saggy buttocks look aesthetically unappealing, causing self-esteem issues. Patients desire to have firmer and youthful-looking buttocks.
Fortunately, the butt lift can correct saggy buttocks. The operation is a major intervention and involves incisions and removal of excess skin from the backside. The butt lift is performed under general anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. It means you will remain completely asleep throughout the intervention. You will not remember the operation, feel any pain, and make movements.
A board-certified anesthesiologist will administer the anesthesia, after which the plastic surgeon will start the operation. The surgeon will place incisions on your buttocks. The size and shape of incisions depend on the severity of the sagginess in your butt and your aesthetic goals.
After placing the incisions, the doctor will access the gluteal muscles and tighten them if they have become loose or separated. In the next step, the plastic surgeon will remove the excess fat from your butt via excision or liposuction. The doctor will then remove the excess, saggy skin from your buttocks. The remaining skin will then be re-draped and the incision will be sutured and closed.
After surgery, you will be shifted to a recovery room where you will regain consciousness. You may feel exhausted, dizzy, and sick for some hours or days due to the effects of general anesthesia. Your health will be monitored for some hours, and if it remains stable, you will be allowed to go home.
Your recovery starts right after the procedure. The primary recovery period comprises the first two weeks after surgery. Complete recovery will take six weeks. You can resume work two weeks after the procedure but be sure to avoid strenuous activities and more physical movements. Also, avoid sleeping on your back and sitting for 2-3 weeks after the procedure.
Your butt will be swollen for several weeks. The final results of the procedure will slowly evolve. The outcomes will be visible after the swelling has entirely subsided. You will see that your butt has become firmer, perky, youthful, and toned after some weeks or even months. To sustain the results, be sure to maintain a stable weight after the procedure.
