Increase in volume of the butt with fat grafting
The appearance of the buttocks makes a big difference when it comes to the overall anatomy of the patient. Buttocks that are too small can be considered unappealing and even an aesthetic flaw. There are many patients working out long hours at the gym and keeping different diets to improve the appearance of the buttocks only to notice that there are few to no results. The good news is that there is a plastic surgery procedure that can help you get a bigger butt without being confronted with the downsides of using butt implants. Of course, the results achieved are not comparable with using butt implants. However, an increase in the volume of the butt with fat grafting is preferable for patients who have an excess of fat in certain areas of the body that they would like to get rid of.
Fat grafting is a 2-in-1 procedure with multiple benefits. The main aim of the procedure is to remodel the buttocks, but the increase in volume occurs naturally as fat is transferred to the area. After general anesthesia is administered to the patient, the plastic surgeon will begin by making the incisions for the liposuction. Through small incisions often no longer than 3-4 mm, a liposuction cannula is inserted, and the surgeon starts performing back and forth movements to dislodge the fat so it can be suctioned into a medical vacuum device connected to the cannula. After the fat is eliminated from the donor areas (often the flanks and the abdominal wall), it has to go through a purification process by centrifugation. The purest and healthiest fat cells are then used to be transferred to the buttocks. The transfer is performed with the use of special syringes, and it requires small incisions on the buttocks, similar in size to the ones performed for liposuction.
In some cases, the plastic surgeon can add 900 ccs of fat to each buttock during one fat grafting session. This is quite an increase in volume, but it is important to understand that not all the fat that was transferred to the butt will remain there. A certain percentage of about 30% of the fat grafted is reabsorbed by the body within the first two months post-op. The remaining fat will develop a new blood network during this time and start behaving like it was always there in that area.
The increase in the volume of the butt with fat grafting can be more considerable if this is the goal of the patient, but would require repeated sessions. While the procedure itself doesn’t require touch-up injections later on, there are patients who might desire to achieve a more impressive augmentation by using fat and hence decide to get repeated procedures. Keep in mind that it is important to allow the body to heal and restore before scheduling another session of fat grafting to the butt.
