Is fat grafting a temporary solution for a bigger butt?
Fat transfer procedures have been performed with quite an impressive success rate over the last few years. The procedure can entail fat collection from areas of the body such as the flanks, abdomen, thighs, breasts, hips, buttocks, and even the face and hands to correct aesthetic imperfections that would be difficult to target with other methods.
When it comes to improving the appearance of the buttocks and making it bigger, the first solution that comes to mind is implants. These implants are made out of a thick, highly cohesive silicone gel that make them durable and resistant. Moreover, unlike breast implants, there is no need to remove and replace butt implants, so the results are permanent unless a complication occurs.
However, despite the obvious benefits of using implants to enhance the appearance of the butt, fat grafting is gaining more and more popularity with each year. There are a few reasons why the procedure is so in demand:
– It provides results that are completely natural as it entails the redistribution of fat from the donor areas with an excess of fat to the butt;
– It allows for a complete remodeling of the body and enhances the shape and appearance of the midline;
– The results are easily sustainable over time if the patient is committed to keeping a stable weight.
Since we have mentioned the durability of the results of fat transfer, we can discuss a question we often get from interested patients: Is fat grafting a temporary solution for a bigger butt?
It is true that specialists have tried to perform fat transfer for many decades now, even since we started performing liposuction. However, the results of fat grafting in the past were not as successful as expected. What happened in a vast majority of cases is that the fat died within a short period after the procedure. This is the reason why some patients are left with the idea that fat grafting delivers only a temporary solution for a bigger butt.
However, it is important to understand that the developments of the techniques used nowadays for fat transfer have evolved significantly and the procedure delivers many stable results now than in the past. A certain amount of the fat injected into the buttocks will be indeed reabsorbed by the body within the first two months, but we are talking of no more than 30% of the fat injected. The rest of the fat will develop a new blood network during this time and manage to survive in the location where they were transferred, provided that the patient is committed to following the recommendations of the plastic surgeon.
