Male buttock augmentation options
While women are indeed resorting to plastic surgery in greater numbers than men, nowadays male patients are more and more interested in enhancing the body or correcting imperfections with the help of plastic surgery. One of the procedures that are in demand by male patients is buttock augmentation.
Generally speaking, we have two methods: either by using silicone implants or transferring fat to the buttocks. The first requires gluteal implants that are safe and FDA-approved, and the other is fat collected with liposuction from areas of the body where there is an excess of adipose tissue.
Most male patients will resort to butt implant surgery as it provides results that are easy to estimate and easily sustainable in time. So, when thinking about male buttock augmentation options, men often consider butt augmentation with implants.
When butt augmentation with silicone implants is performed, the patient will be administered a general anesthetic before the plastic surgeon will make incisions on the buttocks to insert the implants. The incisions are often located in the gluteal fold, so it is unlikely for them to be noticeable when the cicatrization process is completed and the scars have fully healed and matured. The plastic surgeon will create a pocket inside the gluteal muscles to position the implants there. If there is little butt tissue to work with, another option would be to place the implants under the gluteal muscles. The decision about the placement of the incisions and the implants will be discussed and made together with the plastic surgeon during the pre-operative consultation. It is also during this time that all the options will be discussed and the patient will be prepared for the surgery.
It is important for patients to understand the ins and outs of the procedure before scheduling the buttock augmentation. The pre-operative and post-operative periods are very important for the success of the procedure and to achieve satisfactory results while avoiding most complications that can be associated with the procedure.
During the pre-operative stage, patients need to quit smoking at least three weeks in advance, avoid anti-inflammatory medication two weeks before the procedure, and also natural supplements that could trigger side effects during or after surgery. These recommendations are given with the purpose of reducing the risks of excessive bleeding during surgery, the formation of blood clots, and delayed wound healing. After surgery, male patients are advised to wear the compression garments for as long as the doctor considers it mandatory and do not sleep or sit on the buttocks for a minimum of three weeks post-op. Taking antibiotics medication after surgery is also important as it is meant to help patients avoid an infection that could easily occur due to the location of the incisions required for this type of surgery.
