Post-operative care after butt implant surgery

Post-operative care after butt implant surgery

Butt implant surgery is a popular plastic surgery procedure. Women who desire to augment their flatter or smaller buttocks often seek the intervention to enhance their aesthetic appearance. The surgery involves the use of artificial objects called implants to enhance your backside.

After the butt implant surgery, you will be required to observe a protracted recovery period that can range from 2-4 weeks. During this period, you will need to take extra care of your new buttocks and your health. The post-operative care is directly linked to your safety and the quality of the achieved aesthetic outcomes.

Compression garments

You will be advised to wear compression garments after the surgery. Some hospitals and surgical facilities provide the compression garments and include the cost in your final bill. You should discuss the type of compression garments with your plastic surgeon during the consultation session.

The compression garments will keep your new buttocks intact and in the desired position until your body accepts the implants, accommodates them, and makes the required adjustments. Also, the garments will help you heal quickly by decreasing the swelling and bruising, containing the pain and discomfort, and protecting you from complications like infections.

One of the factors that concern many patients is sitting during the recovery period. Sitting should be avoided for the first 2-3 weeks following the surgery because it can apply undue pressure on your buttocks, which may open the incisions, result in bleeding, and invite infections to the site. Moreover, it will affect the achieved aesthetic improvements.

When you finally resume sitting after 2-3 weeks, be sure to place a rolled towel under your legs and a soft cushion under your buttocks. You should keep doing this for the next three weeks at least. Doing so will help prevent undue pressure to your buttocks. Also, avoid sitting for more than half an hour straight. Instead, get up frequently and take short and slow walks.

Resting and sleeping

You may experience discomfort when it comes to resting and sleeping during the recovery period. You will be required to rest and sleep on your sides or front, instead of your back. This is an important part of the post-recovery care, as it can prevent the application of pressure to your buttocks. Two or three weeks after the surgery, you may gradually start sleeping and resting on your back; however, you need to be watchful.

Physically intensive activities

Physically demanding activities can apply pressure and force to your newly operated buttocks. Physical activities can cause the surgical wounds to open up, resulting in health and aesthetic complications. Patients are recommended to avoid activities like running, stretching, bending, jumping, weight lifting, exercises, and sports for at least the first six weeks after the surgery.

However, you should get up and take slow and short walks every few hours after the surgery. After six weeks, you may gradually resume physical activities with the approval of your plastic surgeon. Remember, you should not do it suddenly.

Using the restroom

Using the restroom can be a daunting task after the butt implant surgery. While you cannot sit during the recovery period, there is an exception to this condition: you can sit in the restroom. However, make sure to place a rolled towel under your hamstring muscles. This will help ward off the pressure from your buttocks.

You may experience some degree of pain and discomfort when using the restroom; however, it wouldn’t be unbearable with the proper intake of pain relief medications. After 4-5 weeks, you may start using the toilet as you normally do.

Driving is not allowed for the first 4-5 weeks following the butt implant surgery. First, driving requires you to sit, which can result in pressure or pumps on your buttocks. Pressure or pumps can affect the incisions and lead to health complications. It can also affect the aesthetic outcomes.

Secondly, you may still be on medications at this point. When you are on medication, driving can be an extremely risky task. The effects of medications will affect your ability to drive, increasing the risk of collisions and accidents. You should resume driving only after fully recovering and stopping medications.

In order to recover properly, you will be required to take at least 2-3 weeks off work. You may be able to resume work two weeks after the butt implant surgery. Before resuming work, you should ask for your surgeon’s approval.

Once at work, do not sit for longer hours. Make sure to place a soft cushion under your buttocks and a rolled towel under your hamstring muscle to prevent undue pressure on your backside. If your job involves physically demanding activities, you should take more weeks off work because the activities can create health and aesthetic complications for you.

Diet and smoking

Eating healthy foods, especially fruits, vegetables, proteins, and carbohydrates during the recovery period can expedite the healing process. These foods have antioxidants properties help expel toxic substances from your body and make the healing process quick. Also, drink a lot of water and juices as they can help your blood properly circulate and reach the incisions.

Smoking during the healing period can be extremely dangerous. It will not only slow down the recovery but also create other health issues. Smoking coagulates the blood and constricts the blood vessels, which can affect the blood circulation. It can also trigger blood clotting. You should stop smoking before the surgery and stay a non-smoker for at least 6-8 weeks following the surgery.

The buttock implant surgery is a major operation. In order to recovery safely and achieve better aesthetic outcomes, you must be extra careful during the healing process. You will have to make a number of lifestyle changes and avoid a number of activities during the first 4-6 weeks after the procedure. The level of postoperative care will directly affect the aesthetic results and your health, so be sure to follow the tips given above.
