Buttock augmentation is an effective plastic surgery procedure to add projection to and enhance the buttocks. Women are extremely sensitive and conscious about the size and shape of their backsides. Smaller, poorly-shaped, or flatter butts often become a source of lower self-esteem and emotional pain for women. This happens because women with bigger and shapelier butts are considered more beautiful, more fertile, and more feminine.
One of the most common concerns of women when it comes to buttock augmentation is scarring after the surgery. The size, shape, and intensity of the scar after butt augmentation depend on the particular type of intervention. For example, the butt implant surgery involves major scarring in the butt whereas the fat transfer procedure involves smaller scars at the fat donor sites.
The incisions and scarring
Buttock augmentation is a major surgery that involves incisions that ultimately leads to the development of scar tissues. When you choose to undergo the butt implant surgery, the incisions will be placed on the buttocks. As such, it will get scars after the procedure.
The fat transfer procedure involves the removal of the excess fat from the donor sites like the abdomen, sides, and flanks via liposuction. The fat collected will then be transferred to the buttocks via special needles. It means that there will be no visible scar on the butt; however, smaller scars will appear at the liposuction sites.
Whether you choose fat transfer or butt implant surgery, scarring is unavoidable in both. If you don’t want to get scars on your butt, you should consider the fat transfer surgery. However, you need to have excess fat in some parts of your body to qualify for the intervention.
The good news is that if the incisions are positioned strategically in places that are less visible to the naked eye, the resulting scars will be less noticeable or perfectly camouflaged. It depends on who your surgeon is and what techniques he employs during the surgery.
Normal scars after buttock augmentation fade and become less visible over time. Unfortunately, the scars will never completely disappear. In other words, it means that the scarring after buttock augmentation is a tradeoff for the aesthetic improvements achieved via the procedure.
How do the buttock augmentation scars develop?
The buttock augmentation scars emerge inevitably. Even though your plastic surgeon tries his best to place the incisions carefully and to minimize the scars, there is no way to avoid scarring completely. Scars are simply an indication that your body’s natural defense system is in action to heal the incisions, the damaged soft tissues, and the skin.
The scar develops in the form of a thick and falling connective tissue shooting out of the skin. When it comes to butt implant procedure, the scar tissues are often extensive, and it would take many months for it to become less visible. Initially, it develops as a solid and narrow-shaped scar. It then gradually changes color to pink or pale. The final scar will integrate into the skin and become brown.
Abnormal scarring after butt augmentation
There are many factors that can lead to abnormal scarring after buttock augmentation.
– Genetic tendency: Many patients have a genetic tendency to develop abnormal and unsightly scars after buttock augmentation. If someone in your immediate family has developed abnormal scars after an operation or a cut to the skin, it means that there is a risk you may also develop a similar scar after the butt augmentation surgery. During the initial consultation, make sure to ask the surgeon how likely it is for you to get unsightly scars after the operation. If there is more than 50 percent risk that you will develop abnormal scars, avoid the butt implant surgery and go for the fat transfer procedure instead.
– Carelessness during recovery: The recovery after butt augmentation is a crucial phase in the procedure. A little carelessness during the recovery can trigger the development of unsightly, raised, and more visible scars. Make sure to avoid the application of pressure or force to your buttocks, because that can result in wound splitting, which will in turn trigger abnormal scarring.
Also, be sure to wear your compression garments at all times because it can help reduce the risk of abnormal scarring. Physical activities like bending, stretching, running, doing sports and exercises, and weight lifting must be avoided for at least 6 weeks after the surgery. These precautionary measures will go a long way in preventing abnormal scarring.
– Exposure to the sun or direct heat: One of the common elements that lead to the development of abnormal scars after the intervention is the exposure of the buttocks to the sun or any direct form of heat. The sun is extremely dangerous for the incisions. The UV rays can easily lead to unsightly scars on your butt. Make sure to avoid exposing your butt to the sun for at least 5-6 months after the surgery. Also, cover your body properly when you go outside.
– Smoking: While smoking is notorious for causing a number of serious health complications, it also has the tendency to trigger the growth of abnormal scars after undergoing a buttock augmentation. Smoking leads to blood clotting and blocks the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the incisions after the surgery. As a result, the incisions fail to heal properly, which in turn causes the scars to look abnormal and unwelcoming.
Scarring after a buttock augmentation procedure is unavoidable because the surgery involves incisions. In other words, you will not be able to augment your backside without getting a few scars. Normal scars will gradually fade and become less visible over time. However, there is an unavoidable risk that the scars resulting from butt augmentation will become abnormal. Factors like genetics, carelessness during recovery, poor surgeon choice, bad incision type, and exposure of the buttocks to the sun may result in unsightly scarring after the intervention.
